Michelle Yeo, Designer

Michelle Yeo has been designing quilts and teaching for 20 years and began running her own business, Michelle Yeo Quilt Designs, in 2006. In early 2017 she stopped working part time as an Occupational Therapist to concentrate full time on her quilt and fabric designing business. Inspired by antique quilts and the challenge of design, Michelle uses reproduction fabrics to achieve a timeless appeal. Michelle Yeo was born in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, where she still lives with her husband and 3 of her 4 children.

When Michelle was on a teaching tour in the United States. I had the opportunity to meet and host Michelle at my house. She spent her last night here in Northfield with my husband Ron and me before heading to MSP airport for the long haul back to Australia the next day. I was able to show her my antique fabric books and she spent most of the night in the Living Room pouring over the Dargate Book

Bucklebury Chintz by Michelle Yeo brings together many historic and timeless motifs in beautiful raspberry pinks, olive greens and ocean blues. Michelle loves to collect antique quilts and in particular ones from the early 1800s. A quilt she collected while in France inspired Buckleberry Chintz. Her modern take brings in more colors while the originals she was inspired by were in tones of mauve and cream. These chintz prints have been around since the 16th century and originated from India. Traditionally, they were created by block printing, featured flowers and other small patterns on a solid color background. Bucklebury Chintz features paisleys, calico prints and beautiful vines. A print inspired by the moiré technique is also featured within this collection. Bring a bit of history into your next project by using Bucklebury Chintz to create a masterpiece!

These new fabrics feature Dramatic Birds plus intriguing coordinates. I purchased extra bolts of the Birds! We have FQs packets of all 19 designs, a bundle of 1 yard each of the just the bird designs and a FQ bundle of the remaining 16 non-bird designs.

I know it’s still summer but I have started working on a new tree skirt for this year’s tree. I have lots of great red and green fabrics and paper pieces available on my website for those ready to start thinking about the holiday season!

These are English Paper Piecing project. For anyone who doesn’t know about English Paper Piecing, it’s a traditional method of hand sewing pieces together that hold their shape by being secured to paper pieces using either glue or thread. Once the quilt top is finished, papers are removed and the quilt can be finished as you would any quilt.
